In service to Alaskans, families, and communities to collectively create a better tomorrow.

Alaska Family Services was established in 1979 as a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault shelter to provide a safe place for women and children in crisis. Since then, our agency has expanded to encompass more than 20 programs designed to strengthen and support the whole family.
Our Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault shelter is still one of our core programs. Some of our others include our Behavioral Health Treatment Center, which offers services like family-centered substance abuse counseling for teens and adults, and our Family Support and Preservation program, which offers services designed to improve parenting skills and keep children safe. Programs like WIC and Child Care Assistance even extend beyond the Valley to communities throughout Southcentral Alaska.
Each of these programs is designed with our mission in mind—Services to Families—and each seeks family solutions to individual problems.
